Ray Siemens DHSI Bursaries

In honour of DHSI Founder and Director Emeritus Ray Siemens we offer 8 bursaries (4 for Week 1 and 4 for Week 2 of DHSI 2026), reserved for students. These scholarships offer a full tuition waiver as well as accommodation at the Université de Montréal dormitory for the week. Applications are evaluated with attention to need and merit.

If you are interested in being considered for a Ray Siemens DHSI Bursary, please mark your interest in the sponsored DHSI scholarship form below. In case the question does not appear in the form, it means that the deadline to apply for the bursary has passed.

We will announce the selected recipients in January 2026. In case you are awarded the bursary and you have registered in the meantime, either with or without a DHSI scholarship (described below), we will reimburse you the amount you have paid and offer you a room at the dormitory.

Sponsored DHSI Scholarships

Thanks to the exceptional generosity of our sponsors and partners, we are able to offer a number of scholarships for the Digital Humanities Summer Institute. These scholarships are open to all and cover course registration costs with the exception of a non-refundable administration fee (students $150, non-students $300).

Applications are considered on a rolling basis and are evaluated with attention to need, merit, and course availability at the time of evaluation. Scholarship applications will be accepted until 1 March 2026 (with a grace period). Please note that in order to be eligible for a DHSI scholarship, you must complete the scholarship application and receive your acceptance before registering for a course.

Scholarships can take a number of weeks to process. If you are hoping for a spot in a particular course that has limited room remaining, we recommend considering the fee reductions available to students and members of sponsoring and partner organizations and registering directly rather than applying for a scholarship and waiting for confirmation or decline.

Please note:

• You can apply for scholarship spots in both of the DHSI weeks.
• Scholarship spots are limited for each course and offered on a rolling basis as applications are considered. Closer to the deadline date we will often announce on our social media which courses may still have DHSI scholarship spots available. For more information on our social media see the Contact page.
• While DHSI scholarship spots may not be available in all courses at all times, there may still be some room available in those courses via direct registration, with considerable fee reductions available to students and those members of sponsoring organisations.
• DHSI scholarships are intended for the person to whom they are awarded and are non-transferrable.
• While the priority for scholarships will be given to students, there might be scholarship spots available for early-career researchers and non-students.
• To receive correspondence from DHSI about your scholarship application in a timely manner, please ensure that your spam filter will allow emails from dhsimontreal@gmail.com.
• We regret that we are unable to offer fee reimbursements to participants who register before receiving the results of their scholarship application.

Travel Grants for Students based in Canada

We are very pleased to introduce a new series of travel grants for students based in Canada who wish to attend DHSI 2026. This initiative has been made possible through a recent grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) supporting student mobility and participation.
All registered student participants are welcome to apply by March 8th through this form. Results will be announced in mid-March. The travel grants are awarded as partial reimbursement of travel costs (e.g. flight tickets) after DHSI ends in June.
